Run the scenario

  • At 45 clients/week$41.67
  • At 50 clients/week$37.50
  • At 55 clients/week$34.09

That price is what your own goal requires at 40 clients a week. If it is far above what you charge now, the gap is either price, volume or expenses — pick the one you can move this quarter.

HOW THIS CALCULATION WORKS

Pricing off the shop down the road tells you what they need, not what you need. Working backwards from your own goal, your own calendar and your own costs gives you a price you can defend to a client in one sentence.

  • Gross needed = take-home goal ÷ (1 − expense share)
  • Services per year = clients per week × weeks worked
  • Price = gross needed ÷ services per year

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Want $75,000 take-home, keep 80% after costs, and see 40 clients a week for 50 weeks? You need $93,750 gross across 2,000 services — about $47 a service.

These figures come from the example inputs above, not from industry data. ChairScale does not publish benchmark numbers until it has enough verified data to do it properly — read the methodology.

QUESTIONS BARBERS ASK

What if the price it gives me feels too high?

Then one of the other inputs has to move: more clients per week, more weeks worked, or lower expenses. The calculator is showing you the trade, not the verdict.

Should every service be the same price?

No. This gives you the average you need to hit. A longer or more skilled service should sit above it and a quick clean-up below it, as long as the mix averages out to your number.

How often should I revisit my price?

Whenever your costs, your waitlist or your skill level changes. A price set three years ago is priced for three-years-ago costs.
