FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How much do barbers make?
- A barber's pay comes from price per cut, cuts per day, days worked and expenses. At $40 a cut, 8 cuts a day, 5 days a week for 50 weeks, that is $80,000 gross and about $64,000 take-home after 20% for booth rent, supplies and tax. Change any input in the calculator above to see your own figure.
- How much do barbers make an hour?
- Divide your weekly take-home by every hour you are in the shop, not just the hours you are cutting. Cleaning, admin and gaps between clients all count, which is why the honest hourly rate is usually lower than price per cut suggests.
- Is this barber income calculator free?
- Yes. It is free, it works on your phone, and nothing you type is saved to an account. You only create an account if you want the free ChairScale business assessment afterwards.
- What expense percentage should I use?
- Use whatever actually leaves your account: booth rent or commission split, product, card fees and tax set-aside. Many barbers land somewhere between 15% and 40%. If you are unsure, run the calculator at both ends and plan around the lower number.
- What does investing a few dollars per haircut do?
- It turns a small habit into a long-horizon number. On 2,000 cuts a year, setting aside $5 a cut is $10,000 a year invested. The table on this page shows illustrative growth at a steady 7% return. It is an illustration, not advice or a guarantee.
